Privacy policy

Divide collects the minimum it needs to plan trips and run a business. This policy explains what that is.

What we collect

• Account data — name, email, and a password hash (or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google).
• Trip data — itineraries, cairns, coordinates, notes, and permit details you enter. This can reveal where you plan to be and when, so we treat it as sensitive.
• Intake and order data — what you submit in the consulting intake form, plus order status. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers.
• Interest data — what you submit to the creator waitlist or the outfitter demo form: name, email, company, and anything you write in the notes. Used only to contact you about the thing you asked about.

How we use it

To provide the Service: building and displaying your itineraries, fetching weather for your cairns (cairn coordinates and dates are sent to our weather provider, Open-Meteo, without your identity), processing payments through Stripe, and sending transactional email (confirmations, deadline reminders). We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.

Scout’s notes inside a plan are worked out by Divide from the plan itself and go nowhere unless you ask Scout about them. When you ask Scout a question, the question is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the answer, together with what Scout reads to answer it: the trip you have open — its itinerary and its kit, including the names of the people in your party and the notes on the plan — and, when a question needs them, your gear closet and your listings. When you start a conversation, Scout also reads the notes it keeps on how you plan: habits it works out from your own trips, and anything you asked it to remember. You can see, remove or forget all of them in What Scout knows. Looking up a place sends its name and the coordinates of a cairn on your trip to our place-search provider. Your email address, your password and your payment details are never part of any of this. A conversation picks up where it left off for six hours; after that it is closed, and it is deleted thirty days after its last message. A change Scout made to a plan, or proposed and you did not make, is kept with that plan until the plan itself is deleted, so that a change can be undone.

When something breaks, Divide sends Sentry a report of which page broke and which line of code failed, with your browser type and an account number, but not your name or email. A report never includes your trips, notes, place searches or Scout conversations. If you choose to write us a problem report, your words are sent as you wrote them. Reports are kept for thirty days.

To see which parts of Divide get used, Divide counts visits and actions with PostHog. A visit while signed out is counted without cookies and without storing anything on your device. While you are signed in, Divide records which features you use against an account number — that you started a trip, added a cairn or turned on a share link, and counts like how many trips you have or cairns a trip has — but never your trips, notes, places or names, and never your email. Now and then Divide asks a one-line question inside the app; what you write in answer is sent as you wrote it. You can turn this off with Share usage data in Settings: that stops anything new from being recorded. Deleting your account deletes this data within 30 days. Usage data is kept for one year.

Sharing

Trips are private by default. A trip becomes visible to anyone with the link only when you enable its share link, and you can turn that off at any time. Service providers we rely on (hosting, Stripe, email delivery, Open-Meteo, place search, Anthropic when you ask Scout, Sentry, for error reports, and PostHog, for usage counts and in-app questions) receive only what they need to do their jobs.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. Delete a trip and it's gone from the live database immediately; delete your account and we remove your personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep for tax and accounting.

Your rights

Email us to access, correct, export, or delete your data. If you're in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (GDPR, CCPA), we honor those requests accordingly.
